Separating the sheep from the goats
published: Monday | November 10, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

WE JAMAICANS have become accustomed to a political directorate that makes their presence felt only in the run-up to elections. So when Rome stood in ruins for four years and its citizens cried, pleaded and demonstrated for its rebuilding, and all those remonstrations fell on the deaf ears of an arrogant administration, on the eve of election day, Rome is rebuilt.

I wonder if the JFF is seeking to insult us in the very same way.

There are some very serious issues at the JFF that demand national attention. I am uncomfortable with the revelation that Captain Burrell loans millions of interest-free dollars to the JFF. Is his motivation for doing so solely on the basis of his love for the sport?

Volunteerism is the use or involvement of free labour. It would appear that the incumbent and the challenger are pulling out all the stops to be elected to 'volunteer' their services.

My suggestion for separating the sheep from the goats is to remove any avenue for malfeasance. Let those who manage and commit the financial resources of the JFF be separated from those who administer the sport.

Over to you Madame Minister of Sport for your timely intervention.

I am, etc.,

MILTON SCOTT
