Is there hope for Jamaica?
published: Wednesday | November 12, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

IS THERE hope for Jamaica in terms of crime? Yes, but we have to be tough and ruthless when it comes to law enforcement. We can't go after criminals who have no respect for human lives and the law with kid gloves.

The police have to fight these hardened criminals on their very own terms. He who lives by the sword will die by the sword. Communities who protect these so-called area dons and drug lords should ask themselves... has my neighbourhood shown any improvement both economically and physically? Has crime gone up? Do we live in fear? Is it worth the pampers and the bottle of milk?

Unfortunately, the people who need to read this message probably won't see it.

I am, etc.,

EARL WRIGHT
