On the MPs salary issue
published: Friday | November 14, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I THINK the recommendations made by the committee in regards to the salaries of parliamentarians are quite good. However, I think the politicians, when they consider them should bear in mind the current state of the economy and the tremendous debt burden that the country faces. The Parliament building may very well need rebuilding but that can wait until the country is experiencing better financial times. Diverting any money towards a new building at this time would be an insult to the people and an act of political irresponsibility.

Members of Parliament and Prime Ministers and everyone who uses the Parliament building are servants of the people. The people do not care where they meet to discuss the country's business, only that the business they discuss be in the best interest of the country.

I am etc.,
