Well done, Seaga
published: Thursday | November 20, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I WROTE to Mr. Edward Seaga's office about three weeks ago concerning the welfare of an old man who lives in south St. James.

To my surprise, I got a quick response. His assistant Miss Reid was very polite, and was eager to reach out a helping hand to the old man who lost both his kidneys and has prostate cancer. Before I wrote the letter I had to call his office at Belmont Road. I got through quite easily also.

Mr. Edward Seaga is one of the most experienced politicians and one of the brightest we have in Jamaica today. A lot of people might speak of his age. But in my opinion age is just a number. Age does not stop a person's vision, ambition and ideas. In some cases the older the moon the brighter it shines.

Look at Alan Greenspan of the United States, he is 78 years old. The former President of the United States gave him the job to head the Finance Department and the current President Bush has retained him because he is the best in his field at age 78.

In Jamaica we have a lot of misconceived ideas and we are often times biased in our thoughts for different reasons. To move forward we have to grow up as a nation and face reality. Jamaica is a very young country in terms of ideas and experience. We have a long way to go.

Mr. Seaga has made a great contribution in the past and can still make a bigger contribution as Leader of the Opposition or Prime Minister in the future.

I am, etc.,

KIRK NUGENT

Gregory Park

St. Catherine.
