I resent being pushed off the road
published: Thursday | November 20, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I AM of the view that nobody is "more important" on this earth than myself. I further believe that no one has more right to life nor to equal justice. I will accept that some people have more power, money or might even be 'brighter' but that does not give them the right to treat me as a lesser human being.

I resent the fact that every now and then some little two-bit "important person" in a black stretch limousine driving at reckless and dangerous speeds pushes me off the road with wailing sirens and flashing lights with

police outriders and forces me to climb eight-inch high concrete curb walls.

I will readily give up my right of way to the police, ambulance, fire truck and the Prime Minister. I will also give it up to a man in a beaten down old car rushing his sick child to the hospital. But I resent being pushed off the road by some "important person" going to watch a football match at the stadium even if he is the Governor General.

This is exactly what happened to me on Sunday November 16 at 4.00 PM on Authur Wint Drive when I was forced to climb a curb wall to get out of the way of a long black stretch limousine with another ten vehicles behind.

It is a common practice in this country where every "celebrity" is escorted around with blaring sirens and arrogant police men pushing taxpayers off the road. This must come to an end. They should leave early and obey the road code like everybody else. Next time I am not moving, they will have to shoot me.

I am etc
