Truly amazing

THE EDITOR, Sir:
IT IS truly amazing some of the statements that I heard coming out of the last meeting of CARICOM heads held in St. Lucia a few weeks ago. One from a representative from Trinidad and Tobago spoke to the possibility of criminals moving freely around the region if travel was facilitated by use of an identification card. He went on to state that he agreed with the position of Barbados and that a machine-readable ID may be the solution.
I would have preferred to hear that a machine-readable CARICOM ID or passport was being introduced instead of thinking that this could be a possible solution.
Sir, what is truly amazing is that tourists can move around this region using a driver's licence or other forms of ID and Caribbean nationals cannot.
I am, etc.,
