PRIME MINISTER P.J. Patterson has initiated a meeting with the private sector and unions to discuss the anti-terrorism bill.
The meeting will be held today at 4:30 p.m. in the Banquet Hall, at Jamaica House, Hope Road, St. Andrew.
Last night, several business leaders, when contacted, were busy poring over reading materials relating to the voluminous Act in preparation for today's meeting.
The anti-terrorism Bill, tabled by Foreign Affairs Minister K.D. Knight last month, and now before Parliament, has unearthed a plethora of legal, philosophical and human rights issues which piqued the interest of the public, and ruffled the feathers of the Opposition party.
In the wake of the heightened public interest and controversy, the Prime Minister has expressed an interest in meeting with different sectors of the society keen on discussing salient points of the Act.
Yesterday, Dr. Peter Phillips, Minister of Security, invited members of the public to send in their memoranda and submissions to the Government within the next few weeks to help assist Parliament in its deliberations.
