Gang feud prompts peace talks
published: Wednesday | November 26, 2003

FOLLOWING YESTERDAY'S gun slaying of 41-year-old Delroy Gray, alias 'Fishie', political representatives have proposed to broker talks between rival factions in an attempt to end gun clashes between rival gangs of Nannyville Gardens, St. Andrew.

Reports are that the leadership of 'bottom and top' Nannyville Gardens are expected to meet today with the police and their political representatives at the Half-Way Tree Police Station.

The shootings which erupted on Saturday night have so far claimed the life of one person and left another nursing gunshot wounds. Mr. Gray was a resident of Kirkwood Avenue, in the lower section of the Nannyville Housing Scheme, located on Mountain View Avenue, St. Andrew.

Reports are that he was attacked by two men travelling on a motorcycle along Mountain View Avenue, in the vicinity of the scheme. He ran in a bid to escape his attackers, but they pumped several bullets into his body. He died on the spot. The incident occurred while a joint military/ police operation was in effect at the Nannyville Housing Scheme.

It is alleged that Mr. Gray was a suspect in the murder of security guard Maxine Johnson, who was gunned down on July 25 while on duty at the Ashe Centre in Nannyville.

Up to news time last night, members of the security forces were maintaining a strong presence in the community.
