JPSCo hosts energy workshop
published: Friday | November 28, 2003

THE MARKETING and Energy Services Department (ESM) of the Jamaica Public Service Company (JPSCo), recently hosted a Energy Efficiency Workshop for 15 members of the Jamaica Cluster Competitiveness Project (JCCP).
The workshop was aimed at improving the overall competitiveness of Jamaican firms in the key export-related clusters of agro-processing, entertainment and tourism. It was also instrumental in providing participants with information on how to effectively manage energy so as to increase productivity at the workplace.
During the workshop, Joseph Williams, ESM manager at JPSCo, made presentations on energy management and electricity basics while Volton Campbell, JPSCo's senior energy manager, covered the topics, 'understanding the JPSCo electricity bill' and 'equipment overview'.
WORKSHOP TO BE A SUCCESS
Ken Hynes, leader of the agro-processing cluster considered the workshop to be a success. "The preliminary feedback from participants is extremely positive and indicates that the workshop should definitely be repeated for companies in the tourism cluster," he said.
David Rabkin, a project leader at JCCP said, "The workshop was a timely and valuable initiative, which was welcomed and appreciated by all who participated." He added that JCCP was pleased to have participated in the workshop as the two-year old project is dedicated to the notion that Jamaican firms can thrive in the new era of total competition.
Companies which attended the workshop include, Walkers-wood Caribbean Foods, Pick-a Peppa Factory, Mayfield Cheese, Honeybun Bakery, Scientific Medical Supplies, MAPCO Printers, Canco Ltd. and Royan's Royale.
