Gloudon's speech
published: Sunday | November 30, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

ALLOW ME to comment on Mrs. Barbara Gloudon's speech at the University of the West Indies "What does a degree cost?" appearing in last Sunday's Gleaner.

In her humility, Mrs. Gloudon failed to mention that much earlier times, only one or two students received government scholarships and she was a parish winner.

A degree costs an arm and a leg (more so in those times) and Mrs. Gloudon also had to help care for a large family.

I may add, a number of great intellects have never graced a school door.

I am, etc.,
