Isn't this hypocritical?
published: Tuesday | December 2, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I REALISE that the views of those of us overseas make little or no impact on the body politic there in Jamaica, hence no vote for us.

However, as our remittances have always kept the wolf from the public sector's door, I reserve the right of comment on matters that are opaque.

I see where the Cabinet has issued instructions to investigate the public entities for reduction of expenses.

Isn't this hypocritical? When officers of agencies of the public sector were being paid without approval in many instances, why did not the Cabinet set up an investigation of all expenditures in those agencies?

Secondly, after the Minister of Finance publicly confessed to using public funds to ensure a PNP victory, why did they not set up an enquiry? In civilised countries that is what would have happened, regardless of the outcome.

Is not this call by Cabinet too late, when the public sector for the first time since 1655, faces real bankruptcy?

I am, etc.,
