KINGSTON, Jamaica (CMC):
THE RUSSIAN media is reporting that six Jamaicans were among a group of foreign students who sustained serious injury in an attack at a university in Moscow.
According to the reports, the six Jamaicans and a Colombian, including two girls, were attacked by about 30 skinheads at Russia's People's Friendship University, which was the site of a devastating fire last week.
Thirty-eight students died in that fire while two Jamaicans, Lenworth McCalla and Patrick Craig, sustained serious injury when they jumped from the burning building.
SEVERE BEATING
In the latest incident, the group of racists targeted the Jamaicans and gave them a severe beating, reports said.
Russia's Education Minister has reportedly assured the Jamaican students that their attackers would be punished and the police say they have increased security at the university, which specialises in training students from developing countries.
Nine of the attackers were reportedly arrested by the police.
Two have reportedly been charged with hooliganism while the remaining seven have been released on parole.
