GINGER RIDGE:
MARLIE HILL Primary School has given special honours to four persons, and recognition to 12 others during its annual Parents' Day function last Wednesday. The four special recipients were Ceceila Henry, a deaconess of the Mt. Refuge Baptist Church for 61 years; Salomi Watts, Geselda Morgan and Noel Parker.
Born February 12, 1906, Mrs. Henry has only two children but raised 65 others, all of whom she adopted before they were five years old. She is a also a village nanny who has delivered 81 babies.
MODEL PARENT
Mrs. Watts was hailed as a model parent. She cooked at the school for 29 years and retired in 1978 at age 71. Her salary when she retired was $45 per week.
Mrs. Morgan served as secretary of the Parent-Teachers Association and is still the current secretary, although she has no children attending the school.
Mr. Parker is the school's chaplain and counsellor, who was lauded for dedicated service.
The certificates were handed out by Detective L. McFarlane who was representing Sergeant J.D. Roberts from the Brown's Hall Police Station. Mr. McFarlane is the first detective to be stationed at Brown's Hall.
PRINCIPAL REMARKS
Principal Ivis Smith-Ridge gave the welcome and opening remarks. Mr. Festus McCalla, board member, was the guest speaker, while Mrs. I. Annikie, principal of Brown's Hall Primary did the prayer of dedication.
