THE EDITOR, Sir:
I AM writing on behalf of my neighbour who has gone completely blind in one eye and the other one is going quickly as a result of glaucoma. He used to live in a board structure which collapsed in the heavy rains of last year. His brother later came and built a zinc shack for him with pieces of old zinc. The structure is so weak that it could collapse on him any second. Furthermore, when it rains water flows directly through the structure. There are no flooring boards, only the naked dirt and large rock stones. He complains of getting cramps whenever it rains and he has to stay in the wet structure.
For the past six months I have been trying to get him some help. I have spoken to several persons and I even wrote a letter to the Star to see if some kind-hearted Jamaican would extend a helping arm but to date nothing. I have even tried to apply for his pension but was informed that persons he worked for as a cane cutter did not even bother to send in all his NIS contributions.
Editor, he would be overjoyed if he could get a nice board structure to call home, something to keep him safe and warm when it rains or shines. I am not related to him but he has turned to me for help and I have been trying desperately to help him. I may be contacted at 363-5677 or at natchie@hotmail.com.
His name is Elisha Blackstock and he resides in the Osbourne Store area below the Texaco gas station. He is well known and can be easily found.
