Man charged for murder of former politician's wife
published: Wednesday | December 3, 2003

MORE THAN a year after Yvonne Beaumont-Walters, former wife of the People's National Party (PNP) deputy general secretary, Linton Walters, was abducted and killed, a 25-year-old man has been arrested and charged.

Ijah John, formerly of Mountain View Avenue, but who now resides on Wint Road in Olympic Gardens, was arrested on Friday for the death of Mrs. Walters and her nephew, Geoffery Beaumont.

The bodies of the two were fished from a 30-feet deep pit on Fourth Avenue, Vineyard Town, Kingston on August 25, 2002.

Initial reports were that the Beaumonts were abducted in the Waterloo Road area of upper St. Andrew. Less than 48-hours after they went missing, police investigations led to the discovery of the bodies, plus skulls and skeletal remains, in two pits on Fourth Avenue.

Allegations are that at one stage, John was seen driving Mrs. Walters vehicle, between the time she went missing and her body being found.

The police said at least three bodies, five human skulls and other human skeletal remains, were removed from pits in the area.
