LINTON CROSS, a Manchester businessman believed to be in his fifties, died in a motor vehicle accident along the Trinity main road in Porus, Manchester, Monday.
He is the 26th road fatality in the parish since the start of the year and the 300th nationally.
The police report that Cross ,who has also served on the national executive of the National Democratic Movement, was travelling towards Mandeville in his motor truck at about 4:15 p.m. when a garbage truck belonging to Southern Parks and Markets Limited and being driven by Derrick Thomas collided with his vehicle. Cross died on the spot.
Another motor vehicle, which was parked along the side of the road, was also hit during the incident.
The fatal accident occurred less that 24 hours after another three-vehicle collision occurred at the same location.
Francis Boothe, one of the sidemen on the garbage truck, was taken to hospital for treatment.
Last month eight persons died as a result of traffic accidents in the parish, a significant increase over 2002 when there was only one fatality.
