Ernst & Young to host business workshop today
published: Thursday | December 4, 2003

BUILDING YOUR Competitive Advantage the key to sustainable growth", will be the topic explored today when Ernst & Young Caribbean (EYC) hosts a half-day workshop in Kingston at the Knutsford Court Hotel (8:00 - 11:30 a.m.).

According to Rodney Davis, Principal & Director of Corporate Finance at EYC, the workshop which recognizes the challenges that globalization poses for companies, will explore strategies for remaining competitive and profitable.

Mr. Davis explained that, "Today's global trading environment requires companies to continuously focus on growing their business in order to successfully compete with global industry giants who are no longer restricted by geographic borders".

Noting that the Caribbean is no different, he said that companies in the region "have been carefully assessing their strategic growth options in preparation for increased competition expected from the CSME, the FTAA and other global free trade initiatives."

Among these strategies, he said, is protecting and increasing of market share, market repositioning and targeting of adjacent markets. He noted, however, that the information systems in many of these companies are not designed to measure the true effectiveness of these strategies.

MAXIMIZING ENTERPRISE VALUE

At the workshop, EYC Strategic Alliance Partner and founder, owner of the Corporate Renaissance Group of Canada, Dr. Vijay Jog, will discuss issues such as maximizing enterprise value to the benefit of shareholders and improving financial and management reporting to the benefit of decision makers.

Rosalind Jackson, Human Capital Partner at EYC, will share insights on developing a sustainable competitive advantage through people.

The workshop, Mr. Davis noted, "is a must for any organization seeking to improve their management information systems and better measure and reward their performance."

The company has invited participation in this regard.
