Reggae Marathon on its mark
published: Thursday | December 4, 2003

WESTERN BUREAU:

ORGANISERS OF the third Reggae Marathon in Negril on Saturday morning are still waiting to hear if two-time defending champion Pamenos Ballentyne of St. Vincent and the Grenadines will take part.

Race director Alfred Francis told The Gleaner yesterday that they had not heard from Ballentyne but did not rule out a late appearance saying, "he has responded later than this before", adding "it is always a possibility where he is concerned" when asked if he thought Ballentyne could show up at the last minute.

Francis did confirm, however, that 45-year-old Kingstonian Lorna Williams would return to defend her female marathon title.

The race director said that everything was on-stream for another successful event. While they might not reach the record 935 runners who took part last years, Francis said they were expecting a good turn out of mostly local competitors.

Four events will be contested, as there will also be a half marathon for both male and females as well and awards will be handed out in several age groups.
