SPANISH TOWN, St. Catherine:
HOWARD JOSEPHS, 40, a welder of Greendale, Spanish Town, St. Catherine, appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on December 3, charged with robbery with aggravation and was remanded in custody until December 15, pending a psychiatric evaluation.
Allegations before the court are that on November 23, the complainant, who operates a bar in Spanish Town, was about to lock up for the night at about 10:30 p.m. when Joseph, whom she knew for about three years, entered the bar.
He allegedly jumped over the counter and opened the till and took out money totalling $4,000. When the complainant approached him, it is alleged that he brandished a ratchet knife and threatened to kill her.
He reportedly ran from the bar and made his escape with the money. A report was lodged with the Spanish Town police and Josephs was arrested on November 25 and charged with robbery with aggravation.
NOT GUILTY PLEA
When he appeared in court, he pleaded not guilty and told R.M. Lorna Gayle that he was being framed as he is owed money by a man known as 'Fire Brand'. He then started to wave his national identification card, telling the R.M. that he has worked several places and nothing is wrong with him.
The judge insisted that he needs a psychiatric evaluation and he was remanded. He was not represented when he appeared in court.
