EDWIN ALLEN wouldn't have it any other way.

Rain or shine, they were determined to capture the UGI/ISSA Junior and Senior rural area schoolgirls netball titles and they did.

Minnette Reynolds-coached Edwin Allen emerged victorious after defeating last year's champions Denbigh and Holmwood in the respective finals at G.C. Foster College yesterday.

Elated does not begin to describe the feeling among the players, who, despite the many interruptions due to the rain, felt victory was theirs from the get-go.

In the Junior final, Denbigh were determined to retain at least one of their four titles and grabbed a 12-11 lead at half-time, however Edwin Allen turned the tables.

Rain stopped play at 14-13 but when the game resumed, Edwin Allen maintained the advantage.

ACCURATE SHOOTING

Accurate shooting by Renay Allen and Patricia McCalla put them two points clear and gave them the trophy with a 19-17 margin.

The weather pushed action to the indoor courts where Edwin Allen continued their romp.

Holmwood ensured a competitive game as demonstrated by the 14-14 scoreline at the half-time break.

From the second half onwards it was smooth sailing for Edwin Allen who romped clear and eventually won 36-27.

In play-off action, Denbigh's senior netballers had to settle for third with a 38-27 victory over Mannings while Cross Keys edged Mannings 19-18 in the Junior division.

The schoolgirl netball season culminates on Tuesday with the playing of the All-Island final.

Edwin Allen will meet Corporate Area champions Dunoon in the senior final while the juniors face Wolmer's. A time has not yet been determined.
