'Lord McKinney': What dreams are made of
published: Thursday | December 11, 2003

Rosemary Parkinson , Freelance Writer

THE SECRET is out. Today I am announcing what no woman should blatantly admit.

I have found the man of my dreams. A man's man strong, full-bodied, vibrant, not too sweet, powerful and good looking, one could say.

I have had him. I have embraced him. I have loved him so much that all I wished for (and got, believe you me I got) was more, more and again more.

There will be no marriage, alas, for one cannot exactly marry this free spirit. However, he can be desired, more of him can be acquired, and one can certainly live with him for as long as he is purchasable and by the looks of it, this catch is definitely here to stay, taking Jamaica by storm.

Lord McKinney is in town. Ask people who have attended Passa Passa, as I did, on a Wednesday night inna Kingston and they will agree, "McKinney's fi mi."

FOR THE 'DISCERNING' MAN AND WOMAN

A 'big up' to the product development team at Lascelles Wines & Spirits. They have done it again. McKinney's Tonic Cream (didn't you realise it was a drink I was talking about?) was really developed for the 'discerning' male. You know, the one who every Saturday or Sunday rushes home to prepare himself his build-up, his put-it-back-so-it-can-rise-again tonic, his 'now-he's-down-he-must-get-back-up' drink.

Ladies, I don't know if you are aware of this practice but since I was not, I enquired from a knowledgeable soul one Miss Esme, a loyal helper in the home of the very well-known Grand Dame of Caribbean Cooking. Her answer was: 'Miss Rosie, how you want to know 'bout dat? Of course, I know de drink fi power. You mus' mix stout wid oats, eggs, molasses and some strong t'ings, a little rum sometimes, and drink it down. Me? Make fi mi man? Nah Sah. Is me I mekk it for is me dat need de power."

OK, that taught me an immediate lesson. Power tonics, whether made at home or bought on the market are not for men only and that is how I got myself hooked.

IN HIGH SPIRITS

McKinney's has been through the taste test, let me tell you. All those ladies in the cleaning department of Lascelles (big up), together with the whole Product Development Team, seem to have been doing some taste testing for the last two years until the 'potion' passed with flying colours, leaving the hallowed halls of experimentation to blast the Jamaican market with high spirits. Rumours are the competition is nervous. Good going Lascelles.

There's more. This is for the Jamaican ladies. Look out for yummy Anthony Cruz whose song and video is making waves in the advertisement for McKinney's Tonic Cream. Yep, listen to those words, he has a lot to say about what your man can do after imbibing this tonic made with Vigorton, heavy with Vitamins B2, B6 and Iron.

By the way, I have used this pick-me-up after a day of Christmas stress delicious on crushed ice, topped with grated nutmeg. Enjoy.
