Restoring Kingston to its former glory
published: Thursday | December 11, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

THE OUTCOME of the new 'No Vending Rule' in unauthorised areas of downtown Kingston may very well be the acid test of what is to prevail with the implementation of Prime Minister P.J. Patterson's plan to restore Kingston to its old glory.

It is high time that the Kingston and St. Andrew Co-operation (KSAC) stopped backing down on protesters who want to continue with their illegal actions. Let your 'yeah' be 'yeah' and your 'no' be 'no'. Kingston needs some orderliness, safety and prosperity for all. And in my opinion, if everybody would work together to achieve the desired goal, Kingston Pier may yet also receive a millionth cruise ship passenger, cafes and bistros may yet line the sidewalks of King, Duke, Church and Hanover streets, and Messrs. Butch Stewart, Issa and the Rollins may yet open more hotel rooms for visitors wanting to come and enjoy the true capital city of Jamaica.

I hope that those determined to remain on the streets remember the success story of others who have gone the way of fixing up derelict buildings for themselves where they now carry out successful trade comfortably.

A peaceful season to all.

I am, etc.,
