THE EDITOR, Sir:
AN OPEN letter to Digicel & Courts Jamaica Ltd
My trials with both your organizations began when I made the mistake of going to the Ocho Rios firm of Courts Jamaica Ltd on Saturday October 17, 2003, I purchased a T100 Sony Ericson cell phone. Tax invoice number 670/523935, salesperson 1700, invoice number 670047371 for a total of $2,587.50.
By Wednesday October 22, 2003, I had to take the phone back to Courts because it had stopped working. I live and work in Kingston so I took the phone back to the branch of Courts in the newly opened mall off the boulevard. The customer service representative told me to take the phone to a Digicel office/location. I took it to one on Molynes Road near the Four Roads intersection where I was told to take it to the Digicel head office in New Kingston. I drove in the pouring rain and searched for a parking spot for some time before I was able to go into some RFK or KFC building. A Digicel customer representative listened to my plight and told me to go to the Slipe Road branch of Courts. So off I went again.
I told the customer representative at Courts of the problem and that I would prefer to purchase another phone to which she responded that the policy of the company was to try to fix the phone before replacing it. I offered to buy a more expensive phone (my credit card limit is $32,000) but she again repeated her company's policy. She took the phone for repairs. I was told that the waiting period was three to four weeks.
Five weeks have passed and I am still without a cell phone and I am constantly being told that they have none for me to use in the mean time. Thus I suffer.
On November 24, 2003, I was told by a Digicel representative that the phone was fixed on November 6, 2003 and should be picked up by Courts on November 25, 2003. I was also told to wait a day in order for them to log the phones received. On November 26, 2003 I went to Courts to collect the phone but it was not there.
Please, somebody, help me. I am frustrated and really know not what else to do. I am just fed up.
I am, etc.,
