The Black River bridge
published: Monday | December 15, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

There has been growing controversy concerning repairs to the Black River bridge. This has been further exacerbated by the announcement by the National Works Agency that no traffic will be allowed across the present bridge during these repairs and that there will be no construction of a Bailey Bridge to facilitate the flow of traffic in and out of Black River.

Material for the construction of this Bailey Bridge, along with a container, has been sitting on our property unprotected for approximately three months.

We wish to point out that Hendriks & Co. Ltd. has had a signed lease agreement with the National Works Agency which has been in effect for approximately six months. This agreement is for one year with the option to renew for a further one year and allows for the construction of a Bailey Bridge across the Black River from one side of our property and exiting on the other side.

We therefore, are not in any way responsible for the diversion of traffic or any delays in the repairs to the Black River Bridge and trust that this clarifies any controversy in this matter.

I am, etc.,

ANTONY HENDRIKS

Hendriks & Co Ltd.

P.O. Box 7

Black River

St. Elizabeth
