THE EDITOR, Sir:
I hereby write this letter to congratulate Jade Fulford, our present Miss Jamaica World, who recently represented us at the Miss World Pageant, held in China on 6th of December 2003. She was voted amongst the top 10, where viewers from all over the world were given the opportunity to cast their vote for their favourite contestant.
She is a true representative of our country, it was quite evident that she felt proud wearing our sash, as she kept saying exactly that with great pride "I am very proud to represent Jamaica". To be placed in the top 20 among 105 contestants, is quite an achievement, which I strongly believe does not take only a beautiful woman to make, but also intelligent and ambitious one.
Not that I believe that our previous Miss Jamaica World contestants, were not beautiful and lacked intelligence, but I think that Jade was well groomed for this question, very well prepared. Since our former Miss World Lisa Hanna took home the coveted crown, we have not been placed. So let's face it, there must have been something we weren't doing, this whole competition takes hard work which we can only achieve by doing exactly so.
Jade I say this on behalf of the many Jamaicans who were behind you 100%. Congrats and keep up the good work. We appreciate your best, which was good enough. Thanks for proving to the world that irrespective of our crime rate, we have wonderful inhabitants. And though you did not take home the crown you are a winner and keep up the good work.
I am, etc.,
