WESTERN BUREAU:

ALBION JUNIOR High School completed the triple in St. James/Derrick Kellier Under-15 Netball last Thursday when they won the end of season knockut competition, which was played before a large crowd at the Montego Bay Cricket Club Courts.

Albion, which had earlier won the competition's Open Rally and League titles, had the enviable distinction of going through the entire season unbeaten in all competition. For Flanker Junior High, which loss 19-8 in the final, this was their third consecutive loss in a final this season.

"This was indeed a fantastic season for the girls and all credit to them," said Albion's coach Orville Sancroft, who was adjudged Coach of the Year in the end of season presentation. "My hope is that these girls will take their game to another level as they all seek to become better players."

In the end of season presentation ceremony that followed the game, the Albion team was the toast of the ceremony as in addition to taking home the three major titles and having the coach Sancroft adjudged Coach of the Year, they all copped three other trophies. Christina Whyte copped the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award, Camille Harris emerged the competition's Top Goal Scorer while the team was adjudged the Most Offensive Team.

The other teams, which walked away with awards, were the Flanker team, which was adjudged the Most Socialising Team; and Glendevon, which took home the Most Improved Team award.

IMPRESSED

"I have had a chance to watch a few of the games and I was most impressed with the high level of discipline and sportsmanship I saw said," Derrick Kellier, the Member of Parliament for South St. James and sponsor of all three competitions. "I will be back as sponsor next season and I will continue to support these competition for as long as the present standards are maintained."

In addition to the trophies, Mr. Kellier also handed out scholarship cheques of over $100,000 to 10 students, one from each of the ten schools, which participated in the competition. The ten students, who pocketed $10,000 each were as follows: Nickoy Rooper- Albion, Kacia Henry-Farm, Nicole Brown-Flanker, Antonnette McPherson-Glendevon, Tashannne Sterling- Johns Hall, Simone Trout-Bogue Hill, Kelsha McFarlane - Lottery, Nicole Dias-Mt. Salem, Shantel Watson- Springfield and Somcika Glenister-Granville.

"This has been one of our best seasons ever and we must congratulate the players and coaches for their hard work and commitment," said Sefton Lawrence, the competition's co-ordinator. "We must also thank our sponsor Mr. Kellier for keeping faith with us over the years."
