THE MUNRO College school board is still considering candidates to replace its former principal Dr. Earl Hendricks, who resigned over three weeks ago.
The school, which has appointed a vice-principal to act in the interim, said it would be considering persons for the position with a view instituting a permanent person soon.
Reacting to rumours about the board's role in the principal's departure, Chairman of the school board Gregory Shirley said:
"We did not ask or force the principal to resign. Our attempts to change his mind were unsuccessful, he was adamant so we accepted his resignation."
Mr. Shirley was unwilling to offer an explanation as to the reasons for the principal's resignation, pointing out that Dr. Hendricks resigned for personal reasons.
Efforts by The Gleaner to contact Dr. Hendricks were unsuccessful.
President of the Parent Teachers' Association Penny Watson's only comment was to voice support for the principal.
"It was the PTA who asked him (Dr. Hendricks) to withdraw his resignation," she said
The PTA has since met with parents to discuss the issue and the school board also held a meeting but both refused to comment on the outcome of those talks.
