LESTER BARCOO, businessman, of Spanish Town, St. Catherine is asking the court to remit in whole or in part the $3 million bond for which he stood surety for a murder accused who absconded.
Barcoo's $100,000 bail has been extended for him to return to the Home Circuit Court on today.
STOOD SURETY
He was originally summoned before the court after the man for whom he stood surety, Andre Hinds, labourer, of Metcalfe Road, Kingston 13, did not turn up in court.
When Barcoo appeared in court last month he told the court that he had not known the accused man before August 13 when he bailed him. Barcoo said two men pressured him to bail the accused, and that he did not know the Justice of the Peace who signed the documents for him to bail the accused man.
On Wednesday, attorney-at-law George Soutar represented Barcoo and informed Mrs. Justice Hazel Harris that his client said he could find one of the men who pressured him to bail Hinds. Mr. Soutar asked for an adjournment to be granted so that the police could find the man. He also asked the judge to consider remitting the amount in the bail bond in whole or in part.
BENCH WARRANT
Barcoo had used his land title to bail Andre Hinds. A bench warrant has been issued for Hinds.
Hinds, otherwise called "Swallie," is charged with the murder of Kean Gardener who was gunned down in front of his home at Rodney Road, Kingston 13 on May 19, 2001. Hinds was offered bail in the sum of $3 million with a surety on July 27 this year.
