Plea for peace
published: Sunday | December 21, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I AM a faithful reader of the Gleaner On-line. My family and I have visited Jamaica with various friends and fellow church-members, 10 times over the past 11 years. We've stayed in Red Hills, Ocho Rios, Montego Bay, Kingston, Port Maria, and have many, many friends in Jamaica. We love your country and we love your people.

It breaks my heart to see the turmoil you are experiencing. I am aware that one can visit Jamaica and not see murder and mayhem, despite the extent we read about it. But oh, if the people of Jamaica could but stand back and see what it's doing to your country, perhaps the citizens would simply decide to put a stop to it.

None of you is as strong as all of you. I think all of you could put an end to the violence, it must start ... and end... in the hearts of the people.

I am etc.,
