Most incensed
published: Sunday | December 21, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

WE ARE most incensed by the lack of consideration displayed by the organisers of the FAME road party held on December 13, at Caymanas Race Track.

Many of us who live in Independence City and its environs were deprived of a night's rest because, instead of turning off the music at 2:00 a.m. as prescribed by the Night Noise Abatement Act, it got progressively louder as the night wore on. It was particularly bad from 3.00 a.m. until 5:15 a.m. when the DJ finally turned off the music.

It seems that the police were called in because at 4:00 a.m. the DJs decided to play 'Nah lock off de dance'. Some of us live over a mile away from the venue yet we heard every song which was played and every word which was said over the microphone. We also heard Kurt Riley and Arif Cooper's names being called over the microphone. At approximately 5:00 a.m., the DJ was heard telling someone, presumably the police, 'just one last tune and I will send them home'. This 'one' tune lasted for 15 minutes!

This type of conduct is particularly offensive in light of the fact that most Portmore residents have to leave their homes very early each morning and get in late at nights, so we look forward to a full night's rest at least once over the weekend. We have therefore taken the decision to boycott FAME's broadcast for all of this week, in protest against their disgraceful behaviour and trust that they will be more considerate of people's right to rest when they hold future events of this nature.

I am, etc.,

IRATE SLEEP-DEPRIVED

Resident of

Independence City
