Waterhouse look to make amends against Seba
published: Sunday | December 21, 2003

By Paul A. Reid, Staff Reporter

WESTERN BUREAU:

WRAY AND Nephew National Premier League (NPL) leaders Waterhouse, coming off a stinging defeat at the hands of last-placed Star Cosmos, will be seeking to make amends when they face Seba United at Jarrett Park this afternoon in their second-round game which starts at 3:00.

Waterhouse won the first-round meeting 6-0 but have lost three of their past five games and need to win today if they are to stay in the hunt for a place in the second end-of-round final.

In two other games scheduled for western Jamaica today, youthful Reno take on arguably the hottest team in the league, Star Cosmos, at Frome while Village and Invaders will meet in a Trelawny derby at the Elliston Wakeland Centre.

Seba are undergoing another of their now seemingly annual coaching changes as Everton Tomlinson has left the Montego Bay club and The Gleaner understands that long-time coach Edwin Alcock will be in charge today.

Efforts to contact Seba officials failed as neither Alcock nor chairman Bruce Gaynor returned calls.

Despite Sunday's shock loss to Star Cosmos, the end of first round champions are still in the lead in the overall standings and will be a hard nut to crack today by a Seba team that has not won in their past nine outings.

After a good first round, Waterhouse look vulnerable losing three of their past five games, giving up eight goals and this could be an incentive for Seba who are dead last in the second round with just two points while scoring just two goals.

Waterhouse have the potential to turn up the tempo however and even though they will be without the Nigerian Uchechukwu Chinyere, Weston Forrest, Roberto Fletcher, Andre Hickling and Damion Powell will be sufficient to lead the Harold Thomas-coached team to a win.

Seba will be without goalkeeper Alrick Henry who is sitting out the fifth game of a ban imposed by the Jamaica Football Federation's Disciplinary Committee after a brawl against Reno on November 19.

Jermaine Anderson, who was also banned, should be available but could stay on the bench while the exciting pair of Kemar Mills and Denzil Watson lead the attack.

The Elliston Wakeland Centre is expected to be buzzing with anticipation as despite Invaders having a dip in form, winning just once in the second round, they are expected to lift their game against Village who are vying for a place in the end of second round final.
