Small rush of 'Adrenaline'
published: Monday | December 22, 2003

By Kandre' McDonald, Freelance Writer

'ADRENALINE' - THE all tertiary link-up party, which was staged at the Alfred Sangster Auditorium last Friday, was a success despite a disappointing turnout.

The rain affected what was shaping up to be a good event, and despite being staged indoor some potential patrons left even before entering the auditorium. At 1 a.m. there were only a handful of patrons in the venue, and those present seemed to have purchased their tickets in advance.

The gathering on the outside of the venue was testimony that there was not going to be a great deal of patrons attending the event.

The venue was well lit with party lights dancing around its perimeter. The sound thumping from the speakers of the sound system echoed around the venue, as there were not enough bodies in the venue. Some patrons, however, were insistent on enjoying themselves and danced to each selection throughout the night.

BIT OF CONFUSION

Despite the small turnout there was a bit of confusion at the bar as a price list was not posted but was awkwardly written on small bits of cardboard and placed on the counter. However, this did not stop those that wanted to enjoy a beverage of their choice.

The number of patrons grew somewhat after the 'Party Animal' Kurt Riley was placed behind the turntables at about 1:18 a.m.

Kurt, who could be described as the saviour of the event, immediately made his intentions clear. He created a vibe that was pleasing to the patrons as they reacted in a positive mood to each song.

Even though none of these songs managed to 'survive' on the turntables beyond a few lines the 'Party Animal's' style found favour with the patrons. He mixed the songs in a manner that none of the other sound systems present could duplicate.

Kurt had the patrons moving to Michael Jackson's Rock My World, Missy Elliot's Get Your Freak On and Bubba Sparks' Ugly. He later used some reggae music to seal the issue and left an enthusiastic gathering for the Coppershot crew to work with.

Coppershot, which gave an under par showing when they were at the turntables earlier in the night, were better this time around, even though the selectors were constantly talking while the songs were being played. They had the patrons dancing to songs like Signal Di Plane and Pon Di River, Pon Di Bank while the selector simultaneously blurted out various dance moves.

Earlier the Travelling Star crew were responsible for the juggling. They played songs like Elephant Man's Log On, Online and Capleton's Bun Out Di Chi Chi but just could not get the about 80 patrons present at the time involved.

Some time after 3:15 a.m., with the Coppershot crew at the controls Elephant Man's Christmas Song, became one of the 'most wanted' songs as the crew had to 'pull it up' more than three times.

All in all 'Adrenaline' had a few people but was not short of 'vibes'.
