Prune the withered branches
published: Monday | December 22, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

IF A Prime Minister fails to do a good job, he should be fired. If a Chief Justice fails to do a good job, he should be fired. If a Director of Public Prosecution fails to do a good job, he should be fired. If a Police Commissioner fails to do a good job, he should be fired. If a school principal fails to do a good job, he should be fired. If a senior medical doctor fails to do a good job, he should be fired. If the street cleaner fails to do a good job, he should be fired. If the cane cutter fails to do a good job, he too should be fired.

All are servants of the state and the people. The state is like a tree with its workers as the branches, some branches are high on the tree, while some are at the bottom of the tree but all contribute to the survival of the tree. Mother Nature dictates that any branch of a tree, whether high or low, that fails to remain green but begin to wither must be pruned from the tree for the survival of the tree.

I am, etc.,

ROBERT SOLOMON HENRY

Lot 11 North Monticello Crescent

Spanish Town
