THE JAMAICA National Building Society (JNBS), through its Money Transfer Unit, is now offering a money transfer card to customers which will allow them 24-hour-seven days per week access to cash sent to them via the JN Money Transfer service.
In addition to the 23 JNBS branches across the island, JN customers can now access their money transfers from all Multilink Automated Teller Machines (ATMs). They may also use the JN Money Transfer card to make point of sale purchases where debit cards are accepted for payment of goods.
Leesa Kow, JNBS senior manager with responsibility for remittances, says that the card will make it more convenient to customers to access their cash.
"Our customers can now go directly to any of over 500 Multi-link locations to collect their money transfer without having to wait in long lines," Ms. Kow noted. "Customers can also make purchases at the approximately 7,000 debit card merchants across the island using their JN Money Transfer card.
"In addition to the greater accessibility and convenience of the additional collection points and 24 hour access to the JN Money Transfer service, JN customers will also enjoy the additional benefits of increased flexibility and the safety of not having to collect all the cash sent to them at one time.
"You no longer need to walk around with large amounts of cash after receiving a money transfer. You can simply withdraw the amount you need and the rest stays safely with JN until you need to access the rest of your cash."
Michelle Chambers, a Jamaica National customer at the Spanish Town branch, was the first to use the new facility. "I found it very easy to use," she said. "I no longer need to join a long line and my money is right there for me to use."
It is not necessary for the sender to know the card number or to set up an account before using the facility. Senders overseas can still send to their family and friends in the usual quick, safe and hassle-free JN way. Once a money transfer receiver signs up for his/her card, all transfers sent to him/her will automatically be available for collection at the ATMs or through point of sale purchase using the card.
"Customers are still welcome to come in to our branches if they prefer to do so," Ms. Kow explained.
