THE EDITOR, Sir:
WITHOUT A bachelor's degree or master's you are nobody. I am currently working as a HEART Trainee in St. Ann. I work alongside and for people who have obtained their bachelor's and master's degrees. My reason for writing this letter is to give my view on a situation which is causing me concerns as a HEART trainee.
My concern is, why do people with such qualifications treat persons like myself the way they do? In saying this, I am not a trainee because life is hard, I am a trainee because it was the easiest way to further my education.
If you decide to carry out a survey on these people, half of them cannot do their own work. If it were not for HEART trainees like myself, they would be in a lot of trouble most of the time, probably end up losing their jobs. So instead of treating these people the way they do, they should at least make them feel appreciated, for assisting them in doing their jobs.
I have known of persons who started out just like myself as a HEART trainee and are now financial controllers and even managers in highly recognised companies. How did this happen? They were given a chance to prove they can excel and they did.
I can say that I will not allow these persons to get me down and I hope other trainees feel the same way too.
I am, etc.,
