'Ochi' communities feted
published: Wednesday | December 24, 2003

COMMUNITIES IN and around the Ocho Rios area were the beneficiaries of the pre-Christmas spirit, courtesy of Grande Sport Villa Golf Resort and Spa, Northern Caribbean University (NCU), and Jamaica Junior Chamber, Ocho Rios chapter.

This community outreach, organised by public relations manager of the Beaches property, Andrea 'Twiggy' Levy, saw over 90 adults and children from Mansfield Heights, Faulklands and surrounding districts receiving medical attention from Doctor McIntosh, Nurse Holness and the team from the Mandeville-based university, NCU, while over 130 persons who attended throughout the day received donations of food, clothing and household items. Lunch for the citizens was courtesy of the efforts made by the Junior Chamber and Grande Sport.

Citizens of Parry Town and the students of the Parry Town Primary School were also in for a big treat as the goodwill team from Grande Sport visited the school, which is adopted by resort and gave a treat to over 400 children.

While lunch and the donations of food and clothing items were more than welcomed by the parents, students and teachers, the real joy was the arrival of Santa Claus, who gave a cheer and gift to the students of the school.

Ms. Levy stated that this was just continuing with the promise made by Sandals/Beaches to the community to offer assistance to the less fortunate whenever and wherever possible. In the upcoming term, the Beaches property has plans to build new furniture for the school, which currently has over 500 students on roll.
