Fireworks on waterfront for New Year's Eve
published: Tuesday | December 30, 2003

THE ANNUAL fireworks show is being billed as being bigger and more exciting than last year's.

The activities are free and will run from 4:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.

Event organisers, the Kingston City Centre Improvement Company (KCCIC), said yesterday that patrons can enjoy a range of activities including a free concert and the fireworks display, set for New Year's Eve at the Kingston Waterfront, downtown Kingston.

Eight streets on the waterfront will be blocked off, including Ocean Boulevard and Port Royal streets between West and Duke streets. Princess, Orange, King and Church streets will also be blocked off between Ocean Boulevard and Port Royal streets. There will be parking facilities within designated areas, including at the Jamaica Conference Centre's parking garage, said a release from public relations firm, Communication Consultants.

Activities start around 4:00 p.m. with special entertainment for children. This will include a magician, rides on a simulator, merry-go-round, fingerpainting and others. The concert starts around 7:00 p.m. and will break at midnight for fireworks before continuing until 2:00 a.m.

The concert will feature dancehall and reggae artistes such as Beenie Man, Luciano, Tanto Metro and Devonte, Dean Frazer and Admiral Bailey.

For $2,000, persons can witness the concert and fireworks from specially selected areas during the Oceana Hotel Pool Party, dubbed 'Fireworks Front Row'.

Paying patrons will also receive dinner and champagne at midnight to toast in 2004.
