Mandeville has been enhanced
published: Tuesday | December 30, 2003

The EDITOR, SIR:

I WOULD like to welcome and congratulate those companies who have recently opened branches or have opened new businesses in Mandeville. I would particularly like to welcome Grace, Hennedy, which has opened a new and beautiful Hi Lo supermarket on Ward Avenue. Grace recently opened Rapid and Sheffield and Agro Grace, also on Ward Avenue and have invested some two hundred million dollars in the Mandeville area.

Just recently, Sealy opened a branch of their famous bedding materials near to Golf View Hotel. Basco opened their new store and Casco opened their new branch. Odeon Cineplex opened their cinema in June 2003, adding a whole new dimension of entertainment in the area.

(Now I have enjoyed the wide screen, great sound and yummy goodies to eat at this beautiful complex!) .

All of these businesses have enhanced the town of Mandeville and I would particularly like to welcome them and to say how very much we appreciate new business in the town and that we in the Parish Council will do all that we can to make sure that all their amenities work properly.

One of the thrusts of our Council is to promote investment in Manchester and we would suggest to other companies in Kingston, that they consider opening factories etc. in Manchester. There is plenty of space, a wonderful climate and a work force that is eager and willing to work hard. Manchester also boasts excellent schools and a well-run, highly recognised university, NCU.

Last but not least, I would like to thank Wyndalco for restoring the fountain in the Cecil Carlton Park. No one quite remembers when last the fountain worked but it is at least fifteen years since the pretty fountain sprouted water proudly into the air.

When I approached Wyndalco to restore the fountain, there was no hesitation and I would like to thank Harry Foster and the new general manager, Michael Collins for pushing this project through. Wyndalco's beautiful and generous gift to the town of Mandeville has created excitement and happiness in the whole town. I hope that when we are finished with the park, the residents of Mandeville will be able to enjoy it even more.

I know that with this level of assistance and with the determination to make Mandeville the pretty, well run town that it once was will become a reality. we all want to live in a town that we can be proud of and I thank all those who are so eagerly and willingly assisting in this endeavour.

With all good wishes for 2004.

I am etc.,

SALLY PORTEOUS,

Deputy Mayor of Mandeville
