Gunmen strike in MoBay again - 21-y-o labourer latest victim
published: Thursday | January 1, 2004

By Nagra Plunkett, Staff Reporter

WESTERN BUREAU:

THE CITY of Montego Bay, St. James, was rocked with yet another homicide on Tuesday night when gunmen shot and killed a 21-year-old labourer and injured four others, including two teenage boys.

Dead is Fabian Daley of Paradise, Norwood, while the injured men, who are also of the same community, have been hospitalised in serious condition.

Investigators probing the shooting, which pushed the parish's murder figure to 106 last year, have no immediate information regarding the motive behind the incident. They recovered two 12-gauge cartridges and four 9mm spent shells at the scene.

According to police reports, about 8:30 p.m., Daley and the other victims were among a group of men who were sitting along a roadway in the Paradise, Norwood area when eight men dressed in black coats attacked them.

DIED AT HOSPITAL

The attackers, who were reportedly armed with handguns and rifles, opened fire at the men. Daley and his colleagues were shot as they tried to run away from the scene.

The injured men were transported to the Cornwall Regional Hospital where Daley succumbed to gunshot wounds to his neck and chest.

The Montego Bay Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) is heading the investigations into the matter.
