THE EDITOR, Sir:
I WOULD like to share sentiments with the authors of 'Savagery at Sting', 'Dancehall Depravity' and 'Stop Behaving Like Lumpens'. Everything was well said. Further, I would like to say I am really heartened by the fact that so many have come out against this barbarism.
On the other hand, law enforcement seems to be behind the curve on these kinds of acts. What's with these behind the scenes reprimands? You break the law... you pay the piper... no exception... no coddling. You want to protect the Jamaica brand. Here is your opportunity.
This also presents an opportunity to install cameras and other devices at these venues. This way we can help to protect law-abiding patrons who want to enjoy themselves from those who are intent on breaking the law. If people keep on supporting performers who have a demonstrable record of disrespect for their supporters, the community of women and the country, then, they will never change their behaviour; and therein lies part of the problem.
Finally, I must congratulate the promoters for coming out and demonstrating accountability. You (promoters) may want to consider using only artistes who do not have any derogatory complaints (local and international) logged against them during the preceding 365 days prior to the event. We hope in the future you will do the right thing.
I am. etc.,
