THE STREETS of the troubled communities in Spanish Town, St. Catherine, were flooded with additional police personnel Tuesday, following the upsurge of violence on the weekend.
"The town is heavily policed. We have people on foot, some mobile, while others are involved in a number of operations being conducted in the area. The area is quiet right now," Acting Assistant Commis-sioner George Williams told The Gleaner.
Pointing to Sunday's triple murder on Brunswick Avenue, ACP Williams said the police on Monday night seized a car in Waterford, St. Catherine, which they suspect to be the get-away car used by the killers.
"One man is now being questioned," said Mr. Williams.
While the police are yet to effect an arrest in connection with the five murders in Spanish Town on Sunday, detectives are out in droves looking for persons who can assist them with their investigations.
In an attempt to put a lid on the simmering feud between the rival factions in the troubled areas, Spanish Town's Mayor, Dr. Raymoth Notice, said yesterday that he will be making further contact with Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of National Security, Gil Scott, next week, to agree on a date to meet with the Minister, Dr. Peter Phillips.
