A sour tale
published: Saturday | January 3, 2004

THE EDITOR Sir,

CONCERNS AND threats by the Public Health Authorities in St. Thomas relating to sewage from the headquarters of the police station in Morant Bay is no new deal. It has been on parade long before I left Jamaica three years ago. It now seems like another round of talk coming out of the St Thomas Parish Council according to your article on December 29.

The current crop of councillors may not have read many reports on the issue, but trust me this is a sour tale.

Your article stated, 'In a very stinging presentation to the local Board of Health meeting recently, Chief Public Health Inspector for the parish Mr. Cedric Lewis warned that he does not intend to allow things to fall apart under his watch and already, it was observed where some partner agencies are not carrying their fair share and it will not be tolerated'. Such talk is rather motivating, but words without action is a waste of time.

I will continue to look from this distance to see if the health boss and the new Parish Council representatives have the guts to solve this problem once and for all. Until then all the best for the new year.

I am, etc.,
