THE PRIVATE Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ) is citing hopeful signs that there may be economic growth for the nation in the wake of the challenges of 2003.
It warns, however, this will 'require a stable labour environment'.
The Council of Presidents of the PSOJ, in its new year's message, said the "current dialogue between the Minister of Finance and Planning and the Confede-ration of Trade Unions is encouraging and should help to facilitate the requisite labour environment."
Pointing to discussions during the year with a number of stakeholders on the development of a partnership agreement, the council said: "The private sector recognises the important role that it must play in facilitating economic development and has been holding meetings designed to build trust and seek consensus on issues of national importance. The council sees the aim of this 'Partnership for Progress' discussion as promoting a climate which will ultimately foster economic growth for the benefit of the widest cross-section of the Jamaican society."
