THE TRIAL of 33 medical technologists from the Corporate Area, who are charged with defying a back-to-work order issued by the Industrial Disputes Tribunal (IDT), is to continue on February 16.
The trial began on September 24 last year before Resident Magistrate Kissock Laing in the Corporate Area Criminal Court.
In January last year medical technologists withdrew their services for four days to press their demand for a salary increase in their pay scale up to the level of Government scientific officers, who they claimed performed similar duties.
The matter was referred by the Ministry of Labour to the IDT which made a back-to-work order. However, the technologists defied the order and the Director of Public Prosecutions ordered that summonses be served on them to attend court for breaches of the Act.
Yesterday, Dr. Evadney Williams, the acting director of the National Public Health Laboratory, told the court that she checked the roster in January last year in relation to the medical technologists who did not turn up for work.
