MANDEVILLE, Manchester:
A MAJOR road repair programme which is scheduled to start in the first quarter of this year in Central Manchester, will see all roads being rehabilitated along with adjoining drains.
John Junor, Member of Parliament for the constituency, told The Gleaner that he had been lobbying for all the roads in the constituency to be repaired for quite some time. He said those efforts are now paying off for the people of the area.
He said the work will be done under the supervision of the National Works Agency (NWA) and will continue until all roads are attended to.
NO DISTINCTION
According to Mr. Junor who is also the Minister of Health, there will be no distinction between Parish Council roads and those that are normally maintained by the NWA during the life of the programme.
He said the Porus and Trinity main roads will be given attention with a view to having the work now in progress completed as soon as possible. He explained that a high grade patching system which includes latex and chip material will be used to ensure that the repairs have a long life span.
Pointing out that the maintenance of drains in the parish had long been a sore point, the Minister said that all major drains will also be repaired and the necessary infrastructure put in place to keep them functional.
