By Daraine Luton, Freelance WriterJNBS/KSAFA Super League mid-season champions Santos picked up where they left off in the first round, blanking Olympic 3-0 at the Bell/Chung Stadium in Vineyard Town yesterday.
When debutant Ricardo Smith calmly slotted a free kick from the top of the penalty box around an ill-constructed two-man Olympic wall and into the far corner of Wayne Levermore's net in the seventh minute, the stage was set for a Santos tornado. However, this was not to be. Although Richard Edwards' conversion of a penalty on the second attempt in the 32nd minute had underlined how well Santos were playing, the home side had to wait for Hewie Barnaby's 82nd strike to highlight their supremacy.
Meanwhile, Olympic were disappointing in the way they attacked the goal. Santos' goalie Andrew Sewell was rarely tested and on the occasions that he was, the shots were not threatening.
Most of the second half was played in rain which apparently brought foul play with it. Olympic ended the game with nine men and Santos 10.
In other Super League games, Bull Bay were held to a 1-1 draw by Real Mona, Boys' Town got the better of Barbican 4-2, Rockfort were 2-0 victors over Mountain View while the game between Duhaney Park and Maverley/Hughenden was not played due to a water-logged field.
