The writing is on the wall
published: Tuesday | January 13, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

MR. SEAGA'S financial woes have given a welcome breathing space to the tired governance of the Patterson Administration. Once again the media spotlight is on the JLP and Mr. Patterson and his merry band must be breathing a sigh of relief that at least for a while they do not have to deal with direct criticisms.

Which is unfortunate. It is important that the JLP deals resolutely and finally with Mr. Seaga's financial difficulties which from all indications have crippled any ability he might have possessed to be Prime Minister of Jamaica. Those of the old guard who are feeding him with political placebos should know that they are doing a great disservice to Mr. Seaga. They should be helping him to prepare for a smooth transition into retirement rather than hypocritically slapping him on the back when they are in his presence.

The writing is on the wall and it does not look good for Mr. Seaga. He has been weighed in the balance and found terribly wanting. Let the transition to new leadership begin. Jamaica deserves this.

I am, etc.,

Rev. RALSTON NEMBHARD
