COUNCILLOR HUBERT Baker of the Siloah division, in St. Elizabeth has has suggested that the authorities carry out a major shake-up of the workers employed to the Jamaica Public Service Company (JPSCo.) in St. Elizabeth because they have failed to perform adequately.
The People's National Party (PNP) councillor made his suggestion at the monthly meeting of the St. Elizabeth Parish Council in Black River on Thursday, January 8.
"It is not a matter that we want to come here every month to speak on the subject of the lack of street lights in our division, however, we are forced to do it. The only area in my division that had some street lights repaired was Siloah. Areas such as Thronton, Appleton, Springs, Windsor, Upper and Lower Aberdeen and Williamsfield were still in darkness," Councillor Baker said.
Continuing he said, "The case at the Jamaica Public Service Company's operations in St. Elizabeth is that the employees there are getting paid for doing nothing, and I am suggesting that the powers that be carry out a major shake-up at the company's commercial office in the parish."
THE COMPANY IS AWARE
However, Michelle Bowes-Smith, the JPSCo. customer service manager in charge of St. Elizabeth who was present at December's monthly meeting, admitted that the company is aware of the situation regarding the need to repair the street lights that are malfunctioning, but all cannot be done at the same time.
In recent times the councillors from both sides of the political divide have been lashing out against the light and power company for its tardiness in the installation and repair of street lights.
