High drama as Ninja Man, Kartel get extended bail
published: Wednesday | January 14, 2004

By Rasbert Turner, Gleaner Writer

SPANISH TOWN, St. Catherine:

SPANISH TOWN and its environs were the scenes of high drama and tension yesterday, with the court appearance of two known entertainers who clashed at the 'Sting' stage show in late December.

Adijah 'Vybz Kartel' Palmer, 27, and Desmond 'Ninja Man' Ballentine, 37, were among five men who appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on charges of breaches of the Town and Community Act.

The others were Anthony 'Slinger Blinger' Wright, 25, and labourers Patrick Samuels and Julius Watson, all of Portmore and St. Mary addresses.

The five had their bail extended until February 18.

Allegations outlined in court are that on December 27, the men were at the Jamworld Entertainment Centre in Portmore, St. Catherine, during the 'Sting' reggae show when a physical clash developed on-stage.

The other three men Wright, Watson and Samuels joined in and Ninja Man was beaten. He was treated backstage and at the Nuttal Hospital in St. Andrew for a fractured nose.

The men were taken into custody and later charged by Cornwall 'Bigga' Ford with assault occasioning bodily harm and disorderly conduct, with the exception of Palmer who faced an additional charge of the illegal possession of ammunition.

They all pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Resident Magistrate Lorna Gayle ordered that they be fingerprinted before releasing them on bail until their next court date.
