Airing dirty linen on foreign clothes line
published: Wednesday | January 14, 2004
THE EDITOR, Sir:
I WAS rather disgusted to read on page A2 of The Gleaner dated Thursday, January 8, 2004 an article headlined 'No toilet paper for Supreme Court jurors'. Let me hasten to say that 'toilet paper' should indeed be provided for citizens who are doing their civic duties but some things are not to be published abroad. The Gleaner, as I am sure you are aware, is widely read overseas, not only by Jamaicans residing there, but by all and sundry those who mean us (Jamaicans) well and those who mean us ill. Jamaica already has a bad reputation abroad and we do not need to add to this by 'airing our dirty linen on foreign clothes line'.
How does this bit of information benefit the populace? Please remember that we do not live in a shell by ourselves. We are part of a wider community, a tourist destination, a God-fearing nation and we can make Jamaica a better place if we think before we act, or in this case write.
Let us work as a people and lift up Jamaica, let us all help to build a better nation and not publish articles of such low calibre that will damage rather than build our beautiful Jamaica.
I am, etc.,
